The Staggers EMS Scholarship Fund honors a physician, educator, public servant, and advocate whose life’s work was dedicated to helping others.
Throughout a medical career spanning decades, Staggers served as a family physician, emergency room physician, and medical director for emergency services across Fayette, Raleigh, Wyoming, and Boone counties. She was a respected leader in emergency medicine and a passionate supporter of emergency medical services throughout southern West Virginia.
A Champion for EMS
While many knew Staggers as a physician, she was equally respected by the EMS community.
Committed to understanding every aspect of emergency care, she completed an entire paramedic training program alongside working EMTs and paramedics, earning and maintaining her Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) certification throughout her career.
She believed deeply in the importance of strong emergency medical services and worked tirelessly to support and advocate for first responders.
Whether serving in the emergency room, directing EMS systems, or mentoring healthcare professionals, she approached every role with compassion, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
Continuing Her Legacy
The Dr. Margaret Anne Staggers EMS Scholarship Fund is being established to honor a physician, educator, and public servant whose career was dedicated to caring for others and improving emergency medical services throughout southern West Virginia.
Created through the Fayette County Community Foundation, the scholarship will support Fayette County residents pursuing careers in emergency medical services, helping future EMTs, paramedics, and emergency professionals gain the skills needed to serve their communities.
The fund is currently growing through memorial gifts and community support. Every contribution helps build a lasting legacy that reflects Dr. Staggers’ commitment to education, service, and excellence in emergency care while creating opportunities for future generations.
