Fayette County Community Foundation West Virginia presents scholarship

Nora M. Reed Scholarship Awardee

The Fayette County Community Foundation (FCCF) awarded its first scholarship, the Nora M. Reed Scholarship for Visual Arts and Music, to Alejandro Khaaliq of Mt. Hope. Khaaliq begins studies in Graphic Design at Marshall University this fall. Khaaliq graduated from Oak Hill High School last week.

Art has always been a massive part of my life and personality; it has given me a sense of comfort, joy, and a sense of purpose.

The Foundation is extremely pleased to have had such qualified applicants and looks forward to seeing what each will become in the future.

“Presenting Alejandro with the scholarship was a great experience,” says Melanie Seiler, chair of the Scholarship Committee. “He was obviously excited which makes it fun for us too.”

The scholarship was made possible by Ms. Reed’s desire to help students follow their shared passion. Ms. Reed played flute, was a talented artist, and loved crafting in her spare time. Her memory will live on through the creativity that she inspires as students are able to reach for their dreams.
